Due to its Benjamin Graham connotations, I was drawn to this Kindle book. Whereas the reader probably assumes a book called The Beta Wizard Method explains a method, after a few pages, the author allows as how he will not be sharing his complete Beta Wizard method but only the part he wants you to know. If you are a careful stock picker and you examine the financial disclosures of the equities selected by the author, you may feel queasy about not knowing the complete ingredients of his method, because his website displays stocks that do not clearly fit those criteria described in the book.The strategy described in The Beta Wizard Method does have some Benjamin Graham elements, but in The Intelligent Investor and Security Analysis, Graham devotes some effort to the staggering unreliability of analyst earnings estimates. Analyst earnings estimates happen to be a key component to the approach advocated here. That's hard to swallow because Graham's 40+ year-old insight has not aged much in the contemporary financial landscape. Given the author's ascription to Graham's ideas, an explanation for this departure seems warranted.It is also not known how this approach works in a bear market environment.As a sort of condolence for not sharing the complete Beta Wizard method, you are invited to subscribe to a monthly newsletter and also follow the author's selections on his website. But the author is not upkeeping either consistently, it appears --he seemed to initially update his picks every 2 weeks as described in his book but has not done so in over a month.
Concise, easy to follow, and well-written: Todd does an excellent job of clearly providing the reader with the development of his theory, how to execute his specific buying and selling strategy, and extensive scenarios to show how his strategy works. As as novice investor, I was delighted to have a short, yet highly informative guide on how to best navigate the stock market straight \ from someone who truly knows the ropes. I was sure to sign up for Todd's free newsletter, as listed in the book, which I'm sure will add great value to my investment future.
Two of my all-time favorite books on investing are Benjamin Graham’s Intelligent Investor and Jeremy Siegel’s Stocks for the Long Run. I read both in my formative investing years and have enjoyed success along the way. As I get older and see retirement age on the horizon, I have been in search of a way to juice my earnings. It’s my good fortune to come across The Beta Wizard. This short, but densely packed book lays out an insightful method for doing precisely what I was looking for – juicing my returns. This guide will walk you through several handy metrics to utilize when planning your course to take advantage of the natural swing of base investments. It is a powerful tool to utilize for capturing the gains that are sitting right in front your face. Wizard on!
I received a free copy of the PDF version of this book back in January. I have done two test runs with this method that have both been very successful. I would not recommend this book, however, to those who aren’t willing to wait out downturns. The way this method appears to play out is simple: when the market is up, your portfolio will probably out perform the market, but, when the market is declining, your portfolio will probably underperform the market. Additionally, this method is intended for long-term returns, as the author states, however for those that are more conservative in nature I wouldn’t recommend this method; for those that are more aggressive I would.
As an amateur investor, I'm always looking at ways to increase my knowledge of the market and stock picking. This manual is loaded with info on how to do your own research and pick the right mix of stocks for your portfolio. A great read, he also has a great newsletter to sign up for as well to see his own mix of stocks.
It doesn't take a quant to understand this method on how to evaluate good stocks, based on timeless and sound financial principles, and to benefit from this easy to use strategy of buying low and selling high. I'll never look at stock evaluations the same way again! Great read!
