First of all, I am a huge fan of Oliver Jeffer's books. I love them all. That said, I love this one the best. My kids are grown but I still buy children's books because I love them and like to have the best ones around for my grandchildren who also love his books. Here We Are is a beautiful, sensitive and fun book. Perfect as a gift for new parents and anyone who cares about the earth and it's inhabitants, especially in these uncertain times.

This is an absolutely beautiful book, with fantastic messages worked into some big ideas. Bought this for my 2.5 year old twins who are obsessed with the idea of light during the day and dark at night, we talk about the sun, moon and stars often.I will be purchasing some of these for gifts as well!Looking forward to reading this one over and over again!!!

A gorgeous book full of wisdoms we want to share with our next generation (and peers). This book has some fun facts about our planet and a touch of magic that comes with sharing those facts with an infant or child. "You may not be able to speak yet either, even though your head is filled with questions. Be patient, you'll learn how to use words soon enough."

A beautiful message and beautiful illustrations. New parents will enjoy reading this to their babies. It's a great baby gift.Note: This book is clearly intended to be read to new babies (one line says something like "you can't speak yet"), but my 3-year-old and 8-year-old love it anyway (and unfortunately, I did not know about it when they were babies, so it's not just nostalgia that's got them hooked).

I'm not really sure who would be the correct target audience for this book... maybe for very young children being read to by parents? It's written from the perspective of a caregiver to a newborn, but the concepts are more suited to older children. The pictures are also more detail oriented and muted (for older children). It's definitely not a good fit for my four-year old, but it's also a bit personal for me to regift to someone who has a young baby.

I know a lot of people love this book and think it has great messages in it. I think it’s weird. Is it told from the perspective of a parent to a baby? Concepts way over a baby’s head. Is it told from an alien to a human? Or an alien to its own baby that was left on our planet? I guess I’m looking too much into it. Maybe I should just focus on the messages - we are all different but we should take care of animals and the planet. Maybe if I had a newborn I’d feel different.

I sent this to the father of a new baby boy. It will be perfect for daddy and son, but big sister will enjoy it too and be able to read it soon. The sentiments ring true with an adult and the information is realistic for the child. What a lovely, lovely book.

The story, concept and illustrations are beautiful in this book. I bought it for myself and to share with my graphic design students. One of the ideas that Oliver Jeffers shares in his interviews is that he makes picture books. He does not call them children's books and I believe that anyone can enjoy this book. I like to look at or read a book at the end of the day to wind down and this book certainly fits in that category. Enjoy the images.

Shinn, a playwright completely unknown to me before seeing his name pop up on the 'Pulitzer Prize for Drama' Wikipedia page, writes with a keen ear for natural dialogue. His characters are clumsy with their words, which, yes, makes for a tougher and possibly more frustrating read. But when one goes the extra mile to read the dialogue as though it was being spoken by a person on a stage, you really do get a sense of how well crafted this play is. A deserving Pulitzer finalist.Having twins played by the same actor really puts an emphasis on how minimal the play is as a whole, with hardly any (written) light or sound changes throughout the production. He also keeps stage direction very minimal, choosing to focus on the words and not the physical actions of each character. One of the better plays I've read--very easy, very simple, and yet touching, painful. Shinn has all the workings of a great dramatist; Dying City is step number one.

A play with a wealth of opportunities for actors to deep-dive emotionally. So much personal history and herstory is carried onstage. I can only imagine that if properly cast and staged this experience would draw its audience into its characters' backstories.

Subtle and honest. Two great roles. Fairly easy production values.

I loved it. Absolutely enjoyed reading it, even though it was for a project, I actually enjoyed reading this. I definitely recommend it.

I thought that this play was defiantly worth the read. Its a bit choppy at times but Mr. Shinn defiantly captures the awkwardness and suffering in this play. If you like older plays like Tennessee Williams and August Wilson you will like Dying City. It is a sad play and the playwright meant for it to be. Its not fluffy and light. the more you read and study it the more it will grow on you. Don't just read it for the sake of reading something. Read it with the idea to study a good and challenging piece of theatre

I saw this play and then read it to see if I missed something. For some reason, this new style of play is being embraced, most likely because there is nothing better coming out in the old style. The plot involves a woman whose husband served in Iraq and his twin brother, obviously we are supposed to be intrigued by the duality of the male character, or least how fast the costume changes can take place.Unfortunately, there is very little plot, the characters drone on about issues and incidents that are patched together randomly and that have no significance nor bearing on real life.Yes, yes...Iraq affected us all, lives were ruined, blah, blah, blah...this play has so little to say about it and is so lacking in originality you wonder if the author's Uncle is a Broadway producer. The characters are not likable and the whole experience of watching the play is like visiting the dysfunctional family next door and being forced to watch their family dynamics for almost two hours. You wouldn't do that would you?So why would you PAY to do that?If this is the future of play writing and Pulitzer nominations (you heard me) than Broadway might as well shut down...or stick to juke-box musicals.

As I am writing my thesis about Pulitzer Prize winning drama, I am reading a lot of modern American Drama, mostly PP winners and nominees. "Dying City" has truly become one of my contemporary favorites. The play is simple, yet compelling, dealing with grief and the loss of love on many different levels. I can highly recommend it to theater groups as a new production and feel it is a great example of writing that is actually meant for the stage and does not hope to be turned into a movie...

The only conceavable excuse for a play this poor is that it it is part of some new "style" that no one told me about. I am perhaps picking up on a new style with recetly published plays that seem to fall under the heading of "instant messageing" plays. They are not labled as such, perhpas, I am ahead of our theatrical historians? Even if it is a new style, this play is really bad. The "construct" had potential. Identical twins played by the same actor in two diffrent times might could have been a wonderfull tool to explore misscomunication and the diffrent perceptions if identical events. Instead, the author (not playwright) seem to have lost interesten in there own work half way through and the play just introduced more than it ever dared to close up or even flesh out. I could write a review much longer than the play on how bad this play was, but I will not.
