About the Author

Derek Prince (1915-2003) was born in Bangalore, India, into a British military family. He was educated as a scholar of classical languages at Eton College and Cambridge University in England and later at Hebrew University, Israel. As a student, he was a philosopher and self-proclaimed agnostic. While in the British Medical Corps during World War II, Prince began to study the Bible as a philosophical work. Converted through a powerful encounter with Jesus Christ, he was baptized in the Holy Spirit a few days later. This life-changing experience altered the whole course of his life, which he thereafter devoted to studying and teaching the Bible as the Word of God. Internationally recognized as a Bible scholar and spiritual patriarch, Derek Prince taught and ministered on six continents for more than sixty years. Until a few years before his death at the age of 88, he traveled the world, imparting God's revealed truth, praying for the sick and afflicted, and sharing his prophetic insights into world events in the light of Scripture. He is the author of over eighty books, six hundred audio teachings, and one hundred video teachings, many of which have been translated and published in more than one hundred languages. He pioneered teaching on such groundbreaking themes as generational curses, the biblical significance of Israel, and demonology. Derek Prince Ministries, with its international headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, continues to distribute his teachings and to train missionaries, church leaders, and congregations through its worldwide national offices. It is estimated that Derek Prince's messages have reached more than half the globe through his books, CDs, and daily radio program, which is now known as Derek Prince Legacy Radio. In 2002 he said, "It is my desire--and I believe the Lord's desire--that this ministry continue the work, which God began through me over sixty years ago, until Jesus returns."

Size of the book surprised me, closer to being a pamphlet; but the content.. very inspiring, insightful and biblical. While not "creative" in the sense of trying to convince sensational concepts, the words that come to mind are faithful and insightful from a teacher whom I'm truly learning to appreciate with each turn of the page. I'd gladly recommend the works of this man for those discerning seekers. Overall, while a simple and short read, but I'm finding the message to be deep, authentic and inspired to the extent that I will remember and contemplate what I learned contrary to the small size of this wonderful book.

All of Derek Prince's books have great significance in these troublesome times. I recommend collecting as many as you can get, especially all the ones on spiritual warfare, receiving the Holy Spirit, spiritual protection, etc. as these are even more relevant today.I have learned so much from this man that my own church never taught-instead of meat, they gave us baby food. Derek Prince is strong meat for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

I chose this rating because I glean so much knowledge from all of Derek Prince's books. I have learned from reading his biography that nothing trumps scripture and it is from scripture alone that I gain my understanding of God's plan for my life. Derek exemplifies such great authority in his teachings but is quick to point out that authority is not solely his or any one person's but it belongs to all who belong to Christ and walk according to His ways. This book equips believers with the knowledge of how to use scriptural knowledge to tear down spiritual roots and strongholds that we may be embedded in. I highly recommend it.

Derek Prince has a gift, endowed by our Creator God, to speak directly to my heart. He has a way of “dumbing it down” to my intellectual level. This book helps break down the walls in my mind and heart that have been obstinate towards God and His Word. Breaking of Spiritual Strongholds and engaging in Spiritual Warfare is what every Christian MUST actively do. This is a must read for anyone who is desiring to be set free from strongholds both personal and national. Whatever your struggle, Jesus is The Answer!

It's a good introduction or starter book in pulling down strongholds ,but I don't think it covers everythingPrince has strong opinions on some things , can't say they are right or wrong just haven't heard or considered some of his beliefs. It's a good starter pamphlet.Prince stressed the importance of speaking out daily scripture and proclamations over life in defeating strongholds and binding and loosing. Lot of talk about high places in our lives and congregations - new things to consider I supposed , I think that subject was explained fully enough to understand in a personal level. I enjoyed the short book, read it in a day.

In the unseen world around us there is an array of spiritual forces not understood outside the Bible. Derek Prince unmasks these forces that oppose humans and cause many of the troubles that 'just won't move', - a stronghold. He gives answers that can be tested and examples from his own life as well as others. This book is like using dynamite to clear away a path through impeding obstacles in the spiritual plane. When power is needed, where does one obtain it, and how? Proven answers with solid instruction will help get the job done.

A great little book. My 15 year old son read this rather quickly. I really like Derek Prince, very solid teacher, though some of his teachings are not the full revelation on said topic. But that is actually a great conversation starter for our family. He teaches a bit on high places in this book, which I've had questions about for awhile. My son actually got a deeper revelation by reading this, like Prince laid the foundation, but the Holy Spirit showed my son more depth of the subject. Really a neat way to faciltate conversation.

Derek Prince was a true apostle of Christ. Reading or listening to him always advances my Christian walk. I can't recommend him highly enough for those who seek someone who goes against the grain of the preachers and pastors of today. You can see that he was truly called by God, and not man appointed or applauded. Being led to him changed my Christian walk completely, for the better.

For Liberty: The Story of the Boston Massacre, by Timothy Decker

From School Library Journal

Grade 5–8—The Boston Massacre is given a dramatic illustrated treatment here. Background about the political situation in England, especially its battles with France and need for capital from the American colonies, sets the stage. British soldiers are introduced individually almost as players in a theatrical production while tensions in Boston build to the climactic confrontation between the soldiers guarding the Custom House and the townspeople. Although Crispus Attucks is not mentioned by name, a man who appears to be African American is shown as a shooting victim. The black-and-white, pen-and-ink, cross-hatched art is done in a graphic-novel style but without panels or speech bubbles. All the faces are similar and blank, with slits as eyes, which distances readers somewhat from the events. The book is presented as nonfiction and John Adams is quoted directly, but no sources are listed. The ending is a bit abrupt. John Adams defends the British soldiers at their trial, then contemplates "a troubled future." Still, the book would be an intriguing addition to classroom discussion about the causes of the rebellion and how ordinary people became caught up in the conflict.—Lucinda Snyder Whitehurst, St. Christopher's School, Richmond, VA END

For Liberty tells the story of the events leading up to, and a detailed account of the Boston Massacre of 1770. The book is mostly focused on the night of the tragedy but it ends with implications for other events to occur between the British and the Sons of Liberty as they struggled for freedom from the crown. The black and white drawings are done in a way to incorporate multiple perspectives. I really enjoy how Timothy Decker has captured snapshots of what it must have been like in the terrifying moments of this important historic event. The story itself is told in a very compelling fashion. The problem is that some of the details are not very clear to a reader. When I received this book from the publisher, it is marked appropriate for children ages 9-11. I wonder if a child this age will understand the story. One of the problems I had on first reading was in understanding who the British were versus the colonists. Although it becomes clearer the further the reader goes in the text, it is not clear at first. Furthermore, I am not sure what some of the images portray earlier in the text. On one early page, the picture shows (a soldier?) strung up in a tree and a mob with torches. A young reader may ask, what do these images mean? It may have helped if the author had included a foreword or an afterword to explain some of these things. Early American history can be challenging for youngsters to understand and some unexplained images make the task more difficult. Finally, some of the language may not be appropriate for young readers. Several words used that may not be a part of the vocabulary of 9-11 year olds used in the text are: bellicose, ruffians, branded and vigilant. Although it is important to introduce new words in text, if not understood by context, much of the meaning of the text is left unknown.

.Illustrated with detailed pen and ink drawings, "For Liberty" is a remarkable book about the Boston Massacre and the seeds of the American Revolution. The detailed images of the angry mob threatening soldiers charged with crowd control immediately brought images of the recent protests in the Middle East to mind, and my student could easily compare the passion of that 18th century moment to today's news. The vocabulary is a bit difficult for school children and for English as a Second Language adult learners, but this book can be used to teach both history, vocabulary, and sociological concepts related to freedom and independence. The addition of a glossary and some teacher/student thought questions at the end would make "For Liberty" an excellent book for 4,5,and 6th grade students. The history is accurate and the drawings precise. Two thumbs up.Kim BurdickStanton, Delaware

In For Liberty Decker brings his wondrous eye to The Colonies in 1770. He's working in what feels like a larger format here, but on closer reflection is actually more of a zoomed in scale. His drawing is deceptively simple, and one can revisit his panels at length and be richly rewarded. The story itself is a familiar one to most of us, but is told here succinctly and with an underlying passion. The loving and lingering examination of the soldiers' uniforms is delightful, and the sudden switch to an aerial view is a beautiful underlining of the narrative. I've only been through it two or three times- I'm sure there is much more to see.

Fabulous
