There are many monographs on andy warhol, but surprisingly, most are just not that great. I collect art monographs and have an extensive library, including all of the catalogue raisonnes of warhol (which were $299 each when they were first released).With that being said, aside from those raisonnes and the “Giant Sizeâ€, there are not any really comprehensive monographs on warhol that are as great as this one.This book covers the retrospective currently going on on warhol and there are works that span his entire career. The book is printed in china which usually indicates a lower caliber paper quality and construction, but for the cost of $50, same day shipping, and 400 pages, you are getting a great value for your money.If you want to start learning about Warhol on a budget, this is an excellent monograph to start with. If you have the money, purchase the “giant size†monograph as well and you will have an incredible insight on the artist and a sample of all the different decades of Warhols work.
This catalog of the 2018-2019 Warhol exhibition at the Whitney Museum in NYC is the most comprehensive look at the artist's work in one volume. It shows his work from the beginning to the unfortunately early end of his career, and in doing so it gives us an appreciation of just how good and artist Andy Warhol was. He got a little lazy in his middle age, but his earlier work, and even some of his later work, shows us he was a very good draughtsman. Having seen the exhibition I can say that the reproductions of his art are of high quality.
This is a wonderful book packed with an incredible amount of Warhol's art. Very impressed with the quality of presentation including the sparkly gold dust jacket.
Detailed, informative, background information on the pieces in the show. Worth investing in the time on a lengthily read.
