Excellent book!! My boys and I read a lot of books together. I'm spoiled by now and only gravitate toward well-written, intelligent and interesting pre-teen novels. This one is very interesting, creative and exciting. It has 2 brave, brilliant boys and 2 tough, resourceful girls who overcome complex social and governmental obstacles as they combine teamwork, bravery, and investigative adventure to fight for what is right and sane for all. We loved this series!!! Our other favorite book series are An accidental adventure by C Alexander London and the misadventures of Edgar and Allan Poe by Gordon McAlpine. Happy Reading!

I found the Mysterious Benedict Society book and bought it for my niece. Since I hadn't heard of it before I thought I should read it before giving it to her to make sure it was age appropriate. It was such a page turner I couldn't put it down. .. I actually read all three in the series myself!!These little mystery solvers are clever and daring and have great adventures together. These books are so well written and it's very 'G rated' and appropriate for young readers.My niece needed all the Mysterious Benedict Society books.

My son was assigned this book as summer reading rising to 6th grade. I try to either read books aloud with my kids, or read them simultaneously so we can talk together about what we've read. I should also reveal that I am a 4th grade teacher and embarrassed to say I had not yet read this, though it is in my classroom library and some of my more advanced readers have said that they love this book.I completed this book in two summer afternoons while stuck at home sick. And I didn't want to put it down. The characters are rich and the action is a fun romp through dangerous waters. It's really important to remember for whom this book was written -- instead of the knee-jerk adult analyses (too long, disappointing ending, blah blah blah) this book speaks beautifully well to 'tweens and their hopes and fears about fitting in, being "normal", being nerdy, the possibility of being a hero, etc. Do you REMEMBER what this stage of life felt like sometimes??! The author has masterfully spoken to the 9 - 12 year old reader: You are smart, you have unique talents and gifts, you CAN change the world, AND family are the folks who love and stick with you (blood relations or not).Is the book perfect? Nope. Is the book a great read? Yup. Is the book written for a 40+-year-old bibliophile teacher? Of course not, but I love the book and so does my son.I hope the author knows what an impressive job he did writing to his intended audience.

The story about misfits struggling to save the world from dark forces might sound familiar, but the writing is fresh, witty and beautifully descriptive. Full of surprising twists and heartwarming moments, the book is a quick-paced adventure with charming characters, all set in a mysterious island with creepy kids and even creepier grownups. I loved that although the kids were the undisputed protagonists, the grownups were more than just "the bad guys" or "the parents". There were real conversations, actual collaboration and even a heroic moment or two.A fun adventure story for kids of all ages.

The Mysterious Benedict Society is a thrilling read for kids of all ages. It first starts out following one child named Reynie who sees an ad in the newspaper for "special opportunities". He takes tests for these "opportunities" and soon meets three other children named Sticky, Kate, and Constance. Soon, the four children meet Mr. Benedict, and his two assistants, Rhonda and Number Two. Mr. Benedict told the children that a man named Ledoroptha Curtain (the Sender) was transmitting messages into the public's mind and causing a problem known as the Emergency. The four children then go as undercover agents to a school Mr. Curtain had opened a few years earlier known as the Institute. Eventually the children team up against Mr. Curtain and the computer he created that was sending messages into everyone's minds and stop them from ruining the world. this was a very enjoyable book and I could not put it down.

This is probably the best gift a parent or grandparent can get a child ages 10 - 13. I simply don't understand why it has been unable to garner the same popularity as the Harry Potter series because it's even better written! I am so happy I discovered this series which will forever be a classic. It's just as enjoyable for adults to read (a sure sign of great writing when it transcends generations)making it something wonderful for a family to share and discuss. I simply cannot recommend these books highly enough!!!! Brilliant writing, imaginative, creative, clever, unique, suspenseful yet not scary, good triumphs over evil, a fine moral compass without being preachy or dogmatic, and completely inoffensive. These Mysterious Benedict Society books are for anyone and everyone. I'd give it more stars if I could. And, somehow, the publishers have managed to keep the individual paperback volumes reasonably priced, so it's accessible to all. Yay!

Another mystery solved by DS Blake Harte. I can't wait to read the next book, to see who attacked Tom, and what he and his father is plotting. I find this series very mysterious and interesting, and I highly recommend it.

I agree with others that the book was to short and I think that the mystery of the "kidnapped" girl is not the real mystery. It is Tom and who has control of him and who attacked him. Can't wait for the next book!!

Intriguing mystery...no murders this time. Very little insight insight into the on going relationship between Blake and Harrison in the one.The Tom subplot has taken a twist and not before time as it was really starting to annoy me. Let's hope it gets sorted soon.

This book takes all of the themes of the series and puts them into overdrive. First, Blake Harte has developed a reputation for solving tricky cases such as the car disappearing in the middle of a tunnel. A magician comes to town and challenges him directly. Second, Harrison has recovered from his experience as a domestic violence victim. His challenge comes when the new neighbor Tom suggests that he is in yet another abusive relationship.Meanwhile, Blake’s nightmares continue. He’s seeing a therapist, who suggests that they are the result of all the murder he faces. Well, yeah. I’m looking forward to the book where he solves this mystery from his childhood.Can new neighbor Tom get any more annoying? Why, yes he can.In the midst of all this, there’s an intriguing mystery with a twist ending.I found this book to be my new favorite. At one point, I was concerned that the series was close to becoming mystery of the week. Those fears were unfounded. Blake and Harrison have come a long way from the first book, both individually and as a couple. The long story arcs develop nicely. Things that appeared to be backstory in the early books are now shown to be clues.The book ends with a teaser for the next book. I usually pick up books in this series on the release on Kindle Unlimited. I will do the same for the next book.

🔎 ATMOSPHERE, Book 9 of THE BLAKE HARTE MYSTERIES, is another worthy addition to the series. I have truly enjoyed reading each book of this series and recommend the books to anyone who enjoys mysteries with some unexpected twists and turns.❇❇📚 Even though each book of this series contains its own mystery & could be read as a stand-alone book, I strongly encourage you to begin your reading with Book 1 and then continue to read the books in numerical order as the author intended. There is an overall storyline that begins with Book 1 and continues throughout each book. You will enjoy the books and the series even more if you have all of the information & details as the story progresses throughout the series. 📚❇❇👬 I will note -for those who might care- that this series does contain M/M romance/relationships, but the relationship of the two main characters is not the main focus of the series AND I hope that readers are accepting and open-minded enough to not allow that to prevent them from reading these really enjoyable books.❇☺❇As a side note, I have really enjoyed Blake & Harrison's slow-building relationship and support their bond, AND I hope to see it continue to grow stronger as the series progresses. 💕Personally, I would love to read more about their personal connection and life in upcoming books -- not to replace the main storylines revolving around the cases/mysteries, but just as an "addition" to them. I believe this would facilitate stronger connections between the books' characters and us readers in addition to making the books even better. These books are good and the author has spent time & effort developing the characters, but I really think the books would be even better if the readers felt more connected to the characters.❇☺❇👏 Robert Innes is a talented, creative and skilled writer. His mind must be fascinating!😱 ❗OMG! ❗Just so you know...the ending of this book will leave you WANTING Book 10 to be released NOW!!! I wanted to be able to read the next book right after I finished reading the last words of this book.⚪⚪⚪💥!!WOW!!💥⚪⚪⚪We have been left with an intriguing cliff hanger to lead us into the next book!.......But don't worry! The case in this book was solved and completely wrapped up!!............It might be better to consider this book's ending as more of an "appetiser" for Book 10 instead of a "cliff hanger".⚠The last couple of pages provide readers with some surprising information about who Tom is along with supplying some clues regarding his intentions and why he is really in Harmschapel. ⚠[Remember Tom? 😜 He's the son of Blake & Harrison's landlady/friendly neighbor; he's been trying to break them up and continues to try to create problems for them--especially Blake. 😜]❇📑❇ I am hoping.... I am crossing my fingers.... I might even be begging....PLEASE! ... OH! ... PLEASE! ... I hope Book 10 is finished and released SOON!! 😁 It will be extremely difficult to wait, but I will be waiting...! 😁

This is a great mystery series. The characters are wonderful, the cases leave you guessing until the end. And the ongoing mystery that is Tom, has all of us on the edge just waiting!

Amazing like the other books in the series.

I like this series and keep up with Blake and Harrison as soon as new book arrives. This was shorter than most and not difficult to figure out. Ending leads to the next book...

This was a required textbook for a FNP pediatric class. The book does not offer any key words, glossary, chapter summary, or companion site for extra help.The product did arrive in good condition. I do not recommend this book if you are a student or teacher.

I teach AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C at a public school. The AP Physics 1 exam is very different from any traditional physics exams. The AP 1 exam requires students to understand and explain concepts in paragraph responses rather than to solve problems mathematically, which is what all other physics courses (including AP Physics C) expect. While the topics in this book are aligned with AP Physics 1, it is better suited to a more traditional, problem-solving course. There are mathematical derivations that simply aren't part of the AP 1 standards. That doesn't mean that students won't learn from it, but the practice problems and tests emphasize problems solving and lack the, "What happens, and why?", types of questions that students will face on the real AP 1. Unfortunately, we have yet to find a textbook or prep book that emphasizes this sort of thinking and response.

I bought this book for my teenager who actually used it unlike some of the other books that I had bought for him.

I'm devouring James Michener's "Iberia" in bed atnight and savoring Dee Nolan's gorgeous "A Food Lover's Pilgrimage Along The Camino to Santiago de Compostela" on the couch during the day.But when I lifted it out of the mailbox today, I eagerly bit into Susan Jagannath's gift for those of us who had given up the hopes of doing The Way because we didn't realize that the 800 km Camino Francés was not the only route.I was born in England (but live in USA) so learning of the Camino Inglés seemed like a sign that this was a doable option.Susan holds your hand the whole way and offers options and alternatives so people with impediments (real or imagined) don't give up.Thanks to Amazon for sending me this teaser. It's amazing how it remembers things I've looked at and is always ready to send reminders or alternatives. "Six days or less" caught my eye.I reckon that if I allow two weeks to stop and smell the roses I just might make it. I'd like to have the time to visit churches and museums and talk to people (I'm fluent in Spanish.)The only "problem" is that I KNOW it's wiser to take the e-version on my iPhone 6+ (not taking the 7" tablet, let alone the iPad). I find reading kindle books on the 6+ OK, but nothing beats paper in my grubby little hands.

Just finished reading this amazing little book. I've read 4 other books on Camino's, and although this is shorter and less descriptive - I know it's the book I'll come back to the most. Like the shorter Camino itself, the book is still packed full of everything you'll need for a great experience - without anything you don't. From the very beginning the book unfolds just how doable this shorter but exciting adventure is for the layperson. Especially when the training schedule starts out with a 1km walk each day and very simply, slowly and easily builds up to 15-20kms per day with back pack in toe. I had no idea how I was going to manage that and hold down a job/life etc, but the author really helps you factor those things in.For me personally, I really appreciated the complete packing list and the Spanish phrases I would need to learn for the trip, as well as the route summary's with accommodation notes for each leg of the journey at the end of each chapter.

I was expecting another spiritual journey story. Instead this is a clear guidebook to walking the shorter (144 km) Camino Ingles. This adventure has intrigued me for some time, but being 60+ in poor physical condition, I wasn't sure I could handle this type of challenge. This author describes the day to day walking challenges, where to stay, where to eat and how far you can expect to walk each day. It still sounds quite daunting, but the clarity of her information gives me more food for thought...maybe??? Then she explains how you can get your stuff from point A to point B without carrying it all. There are people who will take care of this for you!!! Yay!If you have any desire to walk any stretch of any of the caminos, this book certainly makes this camino sound like a plausible and manageable adventure. If you decide to do the walk, carry this book as your guidebook and you won't get lost, hungry, or cold. She says to leave your books at home, but I wouldn't leave this one at home. It's basically the Bible to the Camino Ingles. You'll be happy you had this one with you. Once you read it, you'll understand why.

Read like the most authoritative, short book on the Camino Ingles I've ever come across! Laid out the journey in easy-to-understand steps leaving out virtually any guesswork including illustrations of the route both from town to town each day as well as the gradient to expect (in event you would choose to taxi/bus that short part instead). Took what could be an overwhelming 140 kilometer trek and made it manageable by providing detailed info on training, clothing/shoes, gear to bring, finding potable water along the way, porting your backpack, where to stay/eat along the route, etc. (author said she had already done all the research for a successful pilgrimage and she meant it!) While no photos of the sites you're likely to see are provided, once I scoured the net for places like the Monastery of San Martiño Pinario, Andrade Tower, Praza da Constitucion, Iglesia of Maria Azoque, and Parque El Pasatiempo it only made me wanting to go all the more. Final word - Excelente!

Although this book is perfect for anyone thinking about becoming a modern pilgrim, following the footsteps of those who have gone before him / her for a thousand years, it's also about facing the challenges of our lives today. The author is a mentor who tells us how to prepare for the challenge of our chosen journey, and tells us what to expect in our daily efforts to achieve our goals. She's our cheerleader encouraging us to celebrate our success as we overcome each obstacle, and she tells us to look for markers that are sometimes obscure, or hidden, so we don't move off the path thinking we've found a shortcut or miss the guide post, and make our journey more difficult. What is life if it's not all those things? I would suggest reading this book just before going to sleep, as you may find your dreams filled with the adventure of walking the Gamino Ingles.

Mike Stanton is the author of The Prince of Providence: The Rise and Fall of Buddy Cianci, America’s Most Notorious Mayor, which was a New York Times bestseller. He is an associate professor of journalism at the University of Connecticut, having previously headed the investigative team at the Providence Journal, where he shared a Pulitzer Prize. He lives in Rhode Island with his wife and two children.

I have been a fight fan for over fifty-years. I started watching fights as a child on TV with my Dad… and then I went to fights with my Dad as a teenager… I went into the military and did some fighting there… I got out of the service… went to fights… had a son… and watched fights with him on TV… and then… (And still do) take him to the fights. I have read many… many… boxing books in my life… but this is one of the greatest all-around boxing books I have ever read!It has been my experience that most historical boxing books are written as if they were simply copying “play by play” from either an old sports section… or many actually come across as if they’re copied from an old tickertape printout. Most are written by sportswriters (no offense…. I read their work every day of my life) who either put their subject in a room and tape and convert their comments… or simply pound out a story like they’re meeting their weekly deadline. This book by Mike Stanton… is written by a real literary talent… so the reader is blessed with being able to be engulfed simultaneously with a story of the Rocky Marciano… the only undefeated Heavyweight Champion in the world… with all the statistics and accomplishments attached to this once in the world… people’s true undefeated champion… but at the same time… savvy readers… get the added bonus of thoroughly enjoying the written word as it was meant to be… but not often… presented… wrapped and immersed in a classic boxing story.Rocky’s entire hard scrabble life is brought to you… so you can truly understand… grasp… and feel… what made Rocky… Rocky. The hardworking Italian immigrants… the loving… protective Mother… the siblings… and the neighborhood friends… some of whom were by Rocky’s side his entire life. One of the great sub-plots of the story… is how the entire hometown of Brockton, Massachusetts… supported Marciano… both with their love and pride… and many of their paychecks… many betting every single fight of Rocky’s career. As much as I knew about Marciano… I was surprised about Rocky’s trouble in the military during World War II. I never knew about his court martial and serving time for assault and robbery. Great reporting… and happily… Rocky came out better for it on the other side. Rocky’s love of baseball… and his earliest dreams was of being a Major League ballplayer. He actually went to a couple of big league tryout camps. And as every true boxing fan knows… despite the so called experts saying Rocky was too short… his arms too short… his legs too fat… and his speed too slow… Rocky became a legend that will live on forever. FORTY-NINE-FIGHTS… FORTY-THREE-KNOCKOUTS. His fights in the ring were the most visible fights… but he was constantly battling a crooked manager… and the mob that was running boxing at the time.Mike Stanton the author shows the ability to use his prose to get to your heart… soul… or gut… in every imaginable way and situation. The very opening sentence in the book… grabs you like it was created by either Ernest Hemingway… or Jim Murray…. “HE DIED WITH THE BLUNT FORCE HE HAD USED TO DISPATCH SO MANY OPPONENTS IN THE RING—SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY, IN A CORNFIELD IN THE MIDDLE OF AMERICA, THE MONTH AFTER MAN FIRST WALKED ON THE MOON.”He is just as eloquent when describing the absolute savagery that erupted immediately… or over time… in so many of his fights. Just as Rocky continued to throw brutal combinations with his “SUZIE-Q” terminator destroying his opponents… the author never lets up with his combinations of “feelings-facts-and-prose”… this book is a **KNOCKOUT**!

I base my review of four stars on my interest level since I am not a fan of boxing and the part of the book dealing with his initial bouts was not particularly interesting to me. Author Mike Stanton did a very commendable job in researching the life of his subject and I'm sure someone who is more of a boxing fan than myself would rate the book five stars. Rocky Marchano was the first heavyweight boxing champion that I remember and the names of Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott, Archie Moore, and a few others such as Willie Pep and Kid Gavilan were familiar to me.Rocky had an unblemished record of 49 wins and no losses when he retired in 1956. Boxing was and is a vicious sport and Marciano nearly killed an opponent named Carmine Vingo that left him partially paralyzed. The book also covers the role the mob played in professional boxing with gangster Frankie Carbo being considered the boxing commissioner of the underworld. Rocky's manager was a shady character named Al Weill who Rocky felt was stealing money on him.Like several other boxers Rocky had no concept of the value of money. He'd have uncashed checks for many thousands of dollars that went unused yet he would demand payment for loans of much lesser amounts from others. Rocky's distrust of banks led him to squirrel away money in various places and forgetting where he put it. After his death his family had no idea where to look for money he had hidden from himself and others.Although there was nothing stylish about Rocky Marciano as a boxer he will always remain an iconic athlete from the 1950s. If you're a boxing fan this is a book you should have in your library. This will remain one of my five boxing books in my library The book contains eight pages of photographs.

Okay, maybe Rocky Marciano wasn't history's best boxer, but he had to be the toughest heavyweight to ever lace on a pair of gloves. What he lacked in pugilistic artistry, he more than made up for with strength, stamina, and determination. Had he fought some of his fights a decade or two later, the referee would have stopped the bouts and declared Rocky's opponent the winner by TKO. But referees didn't worry quite so much about cuts, blood, and such in those days, plus Rocky and his cornermen were adamant about continuing. Rocky always came through in the end, eventually retiring with a perfect 49-0 record. This book covers his early life before boxing, his early boxing years (spoiler alert: he wasn't that successful as an amateur), and all of his important fights. I've always admired Rocky and this book solidified by impressions of the man without getting too far into the hero-worship sphere. He had a few warts and problems, and this book tells about them honestly. If you like boxing and especially if you like Rocky Marciano, this book will be as much a treasure to you as it is to me.
