This is a wonderful reference or resource book that is a "must have" for anyone that collects, buys, and/or sells jewelry. The contents flow well from subject to subject. Photographs, illustrations, and drawings are positioned with written content making this a rare contribution to the vast field of the history of jewelry. Whether a novice or an expert, this book will prove to be a valuable resource. There are a few versions of this book so make sure you purchase the latest edition.

I haven't really looked through this book, entirely, but what I see, is great.

For the price, this is a great visual guide. It does not cover cheaper costume jewelry but the pictures from the different eras and information on identification makes up for that. There is a limited section on identifying various jewelry marks (hallmarks) but you can find that info on-line.

Love this book. Lots of good descriptions and detailed pictures.

With some wonderful color photos you can see what old jewelry has to offer, being old does not mean being boring by far, this book gives some fair amounts jewelry that you may have sitting in some box. The question and answers help the new and old collectors alike

Beautiful pictures with lots of history and examples. Book is published in 2008 making the prices way out of date. This is the only down side. Otherwise, it is the kind of book you could spend days just looking through...after you read the history of styles, stones, metals, etc. LOVE IT! IF you enjoy jewelry, you'll want this book too! ;)

This is a very easy read if you are interested in learning more about filing a claim with the vaccine court. The author explains in detail the steps you should follow and gives many examples of vaccine injured children and how their claims were handled through the NVICP. Many of the stories brought tears to my eyes as vaccine injuries are so unfair. It is also heartbreaking to learn that most claims are dismissed by the vaccine court as there are so many more vaccine injuries today with the increase in the number of mandatory vaccines than in the 1980's when the compensation program was introduced, and our NVICP has failed to provide compensation to all those in need.

We went to visit Dr Pauc after reading this book so he could look at our 8 year old with a moderate to severe tic disorder . We have a lot of respect for alternative medicine and the east meets west approach to the body and healing so have absolutely no problem with Dr Pauc's title (or lack of it as some say). He sees patents from all over the world. We saw every reason to visit and try diet, supplements and exercises before considering traditional medicine which was the only suggestion our neurologist in the US gave us. We really feel we are getting to the root cause of our son's Tourette's and not focusing on only the symptoms.A few months on from our visit with Dr Pauc, and incorporating his advice into all of our lives (diet, the right supplements and specific exercises) our son's tics are 10% of what they used to be. A few months ago he couldn't hold a book or get his coat on and now we rarely see a tic. With Tourette's you never know what is around the corner so we're waiting for longer term results before we breathe easily.

This is so true of my family. I'm 62 I wish this was around when I was young. Hope it can help my children and grandchildren.

Very insightful

After reading the book , we visited Robin Pauc, We have been following his very simple but very effective diet, supplement plan and daily exercises (less than 10 minutes) for 2 months now. Even though it is too early to comment , we can see success. We are talking about a child with mild specific learning difficulties here. I really support this book and his approach rather than going for western medicine approach. Robin's approach does not include any medicine other than supplements (fish oil and vitamin) and natural diet.he tries to understand root cause and solve it , so it may take time , but it is the solution, rather than quick but temporarily western medicine approach with possible side effects. Since i met him personally I can say he does not run behind money. I really recommend reading this book for any parent, teachers , grand parents.

While I do not agree with all of Pauc's assertions or believe that this is a miracle that can cure every child based on the dubious evidence of a a few testimonials, I do believe the exercise and dietary information in this book may be helpful. If you read past the notion of 'cure' and have realistc expectations, you may be pleased to find an approach that moves beyond labeling and symptom management to one that just might make some improvements in the brain function of your child. The theory is that the brain continues to develop and make new connections all the time and that we can have a positive impact on its' function largely with exercises, food and nutritional supplements. I imagine the level and degree of improvement must widely vary from child to child. So while I am wary of those who pedal hope to people who are desperate, I am cautiously optimistic that this book really does have something to offer - improved brain function may not be a 'cure' but I certainly do want my child to have the benefit of it.

Pauc's "the Learning Disability Myth" is fast, clear and easy to read. Using all the latest neurological research, he cuts through the educational jargon that gives a name to your child's difficulties, but would not get rid of what is actually causing the symptoms.Taking a health history of the child, and looking at the symptoms, he shows how to design an exercise program that will change the function of the brain. Combined with restructioning the connections in the brain he urges providing the chemical support the brain needs by the simple method of changing the child's diet.Unlike most books on the subject which fail to take advantage of the research by neurologists that the brain is plastic, he suggests methods to give your child the best organized brain possible.Pauc lets you know that a label is not a life sentence and that you can help your child.

The copy I received was NOT the 2010 edition, that I ordered. I received the 2006 edition, 213 pages. Many of the foods mentioned were European brands, or brands that I never heard of. The sweetners did not mention stevia, there was no mention of the gluten free or casein free diet, ETC. On an interesting note there was a mention of Jamie Oliver, the TV Chef who "in 2005 came (to the) UK" had a show "Jamies School Dinners" To get children to eat healthy lunches, "taught cafeteria ladies" to cook "healthy, properly cooked meals in several London schools": like the show that was here in the US this past summer on my comcast lineup .... ANYWAY, I was hoping for updated, cutting edge, new info. I buy a lot of books about how to over come Autism etc. AND I wanted something new... but I got the old edition NOT the 2010.... so I am only giving it one star, because it is not the book I ordered!

Excellent book. It is sound and very informative. We have implemented many of his ideas with great success. I recommend highly to anyone with a child suffering from any of the disorders mentioned.

About the Author

Robert K. Yin is President of COSMOS Corporation, an applied research and social science firm. Over the years, COSMOS has successfully completed hundreds of projects for federal agencies, state and local agencies, and private foundations, and most of this book’s applications come from these projects.Outside of COSMOS, Dr. Yin has assisted numerous other research groups, helping to train their field teams or to design research studies. A recent engagement has been with the United Nations Development Programme, and another assignment has been to provide guidance to assist doctoral students at the University of Copenhagen. Currently, Dr. Yin holds the position of distinguished scholar-in-residence at American University’s School of International Service (Washington, DC). Earlier, he served as Visiting Scholar at the U.S. Government Accountability Office’s research methodology division.Dr. Yin has authored nearly 100 journal articles and books. His first book on the case study method, Case Study Research: Design and Methods (2014) is in its fifth edition. He has edited two case study anthologies (Yin, 2004; and 2005) and has most recently authored a new text on qualitative research methods (Yin, 2011). Dr. Yin received his B.A. in history from Harvard College (magna cum laude) and his Ph.D. in brain and cognitive sciences from M.I.T.

Purchased to help think through my dissertation proposal. Yin provides a thoughtful overview of case study methodology, including attention to both larger considerations of using case study findings to further analytic generalizations and to the step-by-step details of doing case study research. If you are serious about doing case study research, I recommend reading this book along with Cresswell's "Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches" and Stake's "Multiple Case Study Analysis."

This may be the go-to resource for conducting case study research, but the book is so poorly edited, it is extremely difficult to read. Spelling errors, left out words, extra words that don't make sense -- mostly many many typos. It appears the editor didn't proofread at all. The content is ok, but often the author appears to seem confused between case study and quantitative. Also, the directions for data collection are helpful, but I would not rely on this as my only authoritative source of how to conduct case study research. Maybe a 6th edition could just take care of the poor writing?

A solid, yet accessible book written by a researcher that everyone ELSE seems to cite as the authority on case study research. Well worth the purchase. Surprise! Case studies can be qualitative, quantitative, or mixed!I enjoyed being able to listen to the book while I drove. The text-to-speech function is not nearly as good as professional narration, but comes in handy when you want to listen & drive.My dissertation will be a study of multiple cases, and I intend to revisit Yin's book to guide me.

I had problems writing my methodology section for my dissertation but after reading this book I had the AHA moment. I wish I would have bought 6 months ago when I started my dissertation journey.

As a doctoral student, I purchased this book when a research professor at my university recommended it. I can see why! Since I am considering using the case study process for my dissertation research, this book helped me visualize how it might work. Yin filled the book with cogent examples from many fields, with references to find the original study. These examples were both relatively current and from decades past; this range of times helped me see the growth in the case study process and its breadth of applicability.The book is not a follow-the-numbers process by any means, no cookie-cutter here. Instead, it contains a structured process from beginning to end, including analysis and reporting. Along the way, Yin forces the reader to ask questions and consider the applicability of the case study approach to one's own work.All in all, very helpful and no doubt, it will be a reference for me in years to come.

Getting into research for the first time and had difficulties getting institutional review board's approval to green light my study. This book helped tremendously with understanding conceptual framework and providing insight on how to validate research findings. Earlier editions definitely did not provide explanations as clear as the ones presented in this edition. I highly recommend the Kindle version so that you can just search up keywords. Explanations throughout this book seems to have sifted out a lot of jargon and reading it doesn't feel as patronizing as similar texts by other authors.

Yin is very systematic in his approach to case study research, and this can be very helpful to those learning this. His book is easy to read, and he provides examples and exercises to complete.

Outstanding reference book for case study research. Really helped me for my research study for my dissertation. Was able to truly understand the application of case study methodology.

Have loved Star Wars Comics for the past 2 decades or so. I was a HUGE fan of what Darkhorse did with the series, and when Marvel took over, after the Disney buyout, I was rather nervous, that all the new Star Wars comics would have cameos of Donald Duck or something, LOL. I must say that I have never been so happy to be wrong.This series is to date ( as far as I know) the only Comic "series" to tacke the the newest Trilogy continuity. I believe Marvel has doen some mini-series in this era , but as far a long runnin series I think thiis series is your ticket, if you want a book set during this era.This series starts off, with the Resistance being formed but before the events of the Force Awakens. I am not sure how long before, but I would estimate maybe a yearor so. Overall the series is pretty captivating and delves into the actions of Poe and his "Black Sqaudron" during the Cold War between the Resistance and the First Order.The story is a serious one, but doesn't go into the dark depths of the Star Wars universe like some of the Dark Horse titles did. I am ok with this, and this is defenitely a Star Wars story that is suitable for younger readers, but not "kiddy."I think the art style is pretty good, not as good as some of the stuff Dark Horse sent us, but it is quality. I would compare it to the new Marvel Star Wars series that they put out which focuses on the main characters of the Original Trilogy.Overall, I recommend picking this series up, it is fun. I don't think is "seminal piece" of Star Wars comics lore (like Dark Empire by Dark Horse), but it is a fun way to explore the New Trilogy era.

This book was a real surprise. You see, I wasn't enamored with the Poe character from The Force Awakens. I thought he was OK (and, I'll admit, he's been growing on me). But, it wasn't an instant like.Now, this book comes along and breaks my expectation. Not only is it a damn good Star Wars read, the stories have made me like the Poe Dameron character more than I did before!Here's what I like about this book:1. We finally get a story that adds depth to the new movie and continuity! I love reading about Luke and Leia and Han, but, damn, man! It's time to learn about the new characters from TFA. This book does that.2. The story references and continues from the young adult novel Before The Awakening. You don't need to read that book to enjoy this comic (I didn't read it), but you've got some continuity there--and that's cool!3. The story also fleshes out part of TFA. In the opening scene of Episode VII, we see Poe meet with Lor San Tekka. This comic shows where that quest began--with General Organa's orders to seek out the Explorer and try to learn where it is Luke Skywalker has fled. This story adds more depth to the movie.4. We see the creation of Black Squadron, and we get to know the original pilots: Snap Wexley, Kare Kun, L'ulo, Jess Pava, and Oddy Muva. It is nice to get some more depth on these characters. For example, did you know that Snap and Kare are romantically involved? Did you know L'ulo practically raised Poe, and Poe's parents were Rebel Alliance fighters? Yep. Poe spent his childhood on Yavin 4! Jess is a wiz with starfighter mechanics--always trying new gear and systems. And, Oddy starts off flying an old surplus A-Wing because the Resistance doesn't have enough of the T-70 X-Wings.5. Agent Terex is an excellent antagonist. He's a royal, pompous, ass--a real Imperial. And, his personal ship is the Carrion Spike. Well, that's Grand Moff's Tarkin's personal vessel..or was, 35+ years ago. How did Terex get his hands on it?6. There's cool, Star Warsy Space Opera stuff! An ancient city in the center of a mountain. First Order stormtroopers on hoverpacks. Japanese-Godzilla-like-giant-monsters! A prison that needs no walls as it is set on a high gravity world. The prison is set in a 1G field, and if anybody leaves that field, the 8Gs of the world outside will kill them. Cool stuff!7. The stories are interesting and fun and feel like Star Wars. They're also a large dose of humor. Reading Poe and Terex go at it verbally is a hoot! And, BB-8 gathers the astromechs from the squadron to go about their own little mission. Cracks me up, this line of astros, following BB-8, single file, all electronically hooting and humming. What a scene!8. Papa Toren returns! Did you read the Lando book? Lando met with Papa Toren, and it was Toren who put the contract out on Calrissian. He's this interesting alien. Silent. And, the's got these little guys with wings that buzz around him, doing his communicating for him. So, here we are, 40+ years later, and Toren is in prison! Neat connection for those who catch it.Yes, I loved this book. And, I can't wait for volume two to come out (the wait is too long!).

The trick with the backstory material in these large franchise universes (Star Wars and Star Trek) is building off the canon material and filling in the details, without painting yourself into a corner that will be made obsolete by the next movie. This does the trick well - known characters and alien races, merged with a goal (find the Lor San Tekka seen in the Force Awakens). It's sort of a tease, but the story, the action, the charactes all worked together here for an enjoyable story.

Not all that interesting with sub-par artwork. So forgettable that I can’t think of anything else to say but need more words for review.

Fan Fave Poe Dameron gets to show off his wit and skill in this one-shot. Well written and drawn, very engaging. Wonderful addition to the canon.

Very mediocre, but the series becomes amazing so it’s worth the read.

Really love all 3 volumes about Poe. Beautiful art, interesting stories and fills in some gaps.
