Considering this is one of the first books ever on the subject of account-based marketing, the author does a good job presenting an overview of what's changing in the B2B marketing landscape. ABM is such a new subcategory of marketing technology, this book helps to answer basic questions as to what ABM actually is, how B2B marketing and sales teams can apply ABM strategies, and measure the results.

This book is very poorly written and poorly edited. Large sections are repetitive. In some places it contradicts itself - giving a term one definition and then defining it differently in another section. There's a lot of superfluous information. Worst of all, this guy clearly has a poor view of his fellow chief marketing officers. When he describes "B2B marketers" his descriptions and definitions use very negative language and cite the state of B2B marketing from 5-10 years ago. No one I know in B2B marketing acts or thinks the way he describes. I am a proponent of account-based marketing, but I am so offended by Sangram Vajres' view of marketers, that I can promise you I would NEVER buy from his company Terminus as long as he is employed there. Well, maybe if Sangram himself issued an apology and completely re-wrote this book, I might consider it. Sangram, his attitude, and his over-zelaous bashing of marketers in order to sell account-based marketing (and more specifically his own software) is why many CMOs can't get respect. Sad to see this coming from one of our own.

Pretty much useless book even if positioned as the one "for dummies".

Account Based Marketing is something I know very little about. But when the author began to talk about the lack of communication between the Sales people and the Marketing people I knew exactly what he meant. In the companies I've worked for there is frequently a ridiculous lack of coordination and communication between these departments. Groups that really have a lot in common.So what you get in this book is a way to connect these functions/people to make your business stronger. To that end the book talks about the different aspects of the problem that you might face. Everything from personas to Marketing Technology (the software you might need) and how to tie things back to the account. And more, of course.SUMMARYVajre's book is more comprehensive than I was expecting. The info on how to turn Clients into Advocates was not unexpected; but the information on software and how to develop company profiles was very good and in sufficient depth for me and an intro book. Lots of good info here. You don't have to read the entire book to get a headstart to mixing things up.

First off, this is a good book. No person involved in sales or marketing will walk away empty-handed. Itâ€™s a solid primer But in the very first paragraph of the Foreword, it is stated that Account Based Marketing (â€œABMâ€) is not â€œreally a â€œnewâ€ idea at allâ€. ABM isnâ€™t a new idea. Itâ€™s just classic marketing and sales spiffed up with some new words, abeted by new technologies and new positioning within the workplace and marketplace. The author is a co-founder of an account-based marketing platform and this is really a marketing piece for his company. But Mr. Vajre is an excellent and thorough writer. His exposition is laden with helpful gems on the sales and marketing process. I was particularly impressed by the chapters on using technology as selling aids. Good stuff. A worthwhile read for business folks, especially in marketing and sales.Jerry

Being able to have fun reading and learn something at the same time is what the original "Dummies" books are all about and this particular book sticks pretty close to that ideal.Whether you have been involved in marketing your entire life or are just starting out in sales, this book provides a lot of common sense principles that almost anyone can use. I wouldn't say that there is anything revolutionary about what is now called Account-Based Marketing, but the book presents several helpful examples that you can probably relate to in our current day and age.Unlike most marketing books I have read lately, this one goes into extensive details at a pace that anyone can keep up with. It's 300+ pages of great advice and I would highly recommend it.

As a college business instructor, I wouldn't like to use this book title as a resource in the classroom, but the book contents are every bit the excellent info I want to share. So, winner! The book covers segmenting and prioritizing customers, and speaks to the relationships between sales and marketing. It's, worst-case, a lecture in a book and, better case, a good resource for someone who isn't really in marketing but wants to reference key tenants from time to time. Heck, for those individuals, the "for dummies" might even be badge of honor on the book shelf.

I am always surprised how this series of books does the job. Well written clear and concise , it is useful to theÂ all levels of ABM knowledge as a first read.Â Â IT may downplay how much work this method really is and the importance of the very early work to success later on.Â What the author decries today is very true and without a material change of approach by sales and marketing the waste of dollars and effort with continue.Â ABM is not new, (I used to call it Key Account Management)Â but itÂ can be very effective with the tools and approaches we know about.

This is a very comprehensive guidebook of Bali, the Gilli Islands, and Lombok. Howerver, if you are planning a trip, I would actually appreciate more concrete, practical advice on what to do and see, and how to go about doing that, in s smaller amount of space to save time in trip planning. The book has lots of good ideas, but in terms of the "how" it takes work to extricate that, if you can even get it. For example, the author lists Blue Bird taxis as the only ones you should take...and then you get to Ubud to find that they aren't really roaming the streets there, and the only way to get a taxi is to hire a stranger propositioning you on the street! I also think that the author is a little too casual about the country and could offer more advice to solo travelers to make it easier on them. The itineraries are interesting, but again, they take work to figure out and the book needs to make it easier. That said, there are many details and recommendations in the book, and the breadth and depth of information is unmatched. I got very sick on the Gilli Islands and used the book to help determine the best thing, which was the doctor listed in a resort hotel.

I've been going to Bali for years. I have also been using Lonely Planet books while travel there. I just bought the new version and guess what, it's pretty much the exact same info from the last few versions. Hotels for example, they list only a fraction of the options and they review the same few places year after year! I should say they literately just paste the same review over and over. It makes me sad to have this format become outdated but I'm heading to Bali again soon I'll I'll just use apps from now on.

I took both the LP and the Rough Guide to Bali. The LP has the edge in formatting - its two-column format is easier to read. But I preferred the Rough Guide for its more detailed information on the sights I wanted to see. It also seemed that everyone had the LP -- which means that LP-recommended places are more crowded (to the extent they differ from those in the Rough Guide). The two are similar in content, but I think the RG is the one to get.

I was hoping to be inspired by beautiful pictures of the country, however, in lieu of pictures thereâ€™s just big blocks of text. The few pictures there are could have been taken anywhere: close-up of surfers, pictures of sea creatures, but nothing that gives you a bigger picture of the area. Iâ€™m a pictures girl, so I was definitely bummed when I opened the book ðŸ˜•

Contains very limited information on Lombok. Should be called "Bali...........and Lombok, sort of". Lonely Planet is getting a bit greedy with their pricing of this guide.

Book was very helpful - I checked out some of the starred places to stay and restaurants and they were good recommendations! I would have appreciated more background on the Balinese culture in terms of their Hindu religion and how it plays out in their daily lives. Also more detail on some of the activities such as the hike to Lempuyang.

It is simply okay. Doesn't surprise you at all.I like Lonely Planet guides because they take you to places you cannot easily discover and make you feel like a local. It is not the case on that one.

My favorite book about philosophy is one called "The philosophical backstairs", this one comes a booming second. I had fun with the jokes, it made philosophy easy accessible. And to top it off, in my case, I was at the time living with a flat mate who insisted you couldn't read anything in the toilet that was of deeper spiritual content. So having this one there was a great way to circumvent him and use valuable time to read valuable and deeper content. Because the stories and jokes are short, it also was conclusive for the time spent at that location. It turned out to be a popular reason to stop by our house when in town for the necessities.

This book is totally awesome and well worth your time to purchase and READ! In today's hurry, hurry world I still like to just sit and read a real book that can teach me something I didn't know a few minutes ago. Please take the time to instill in your children or Grandchildren the joy of books! They will be much Happier Folks in the future! March 19, 2019

As a technical person, I have tried later in my life to go back and pick up a bit of the humanities -- to try to answer some of those questions we all have about life and living. I started to read and listen to some light reviews of philosophy and see if I could begin to grasp some of the basic questions and perhaps some of the answers. I am almost certain that one cannot do it by self study, but I have listened and read enough to know some of the basic ideas. And on top of that, I love the "man goes in a bar" jokes. Any book which combines two of the things I really enjoy as this book does has to move to the top of my list. When I saw this book I had to have it. I sat done and read it in about an hour and I loved it. I laughed and laughed and I recommend it to anyone looking to dip a toe into philosophy. Serious students will likely scoff at it, but for the rest of us, the ideas are here for the taking. Buy this book.

It's funny but I wouldn't recommend it for any real insights or knowledge. The book lacks structure. It gives a very high overview of different theories, but I don't see the value in this. Maybe, I was looking for something deeper.

Although I felt like a fool sitting here all by myself laughing myself to tears over jokes some of which are older than I am (and that's pretty old), I enjoyed every minute of it. And I think there was a glimmer of understanding regarding philosophy as an added treat. I wish I knew somebody who has the same mind-bend as I so I could recommend this book. Loved it!!

Very cleaver and funny, but look out you actually might learn something. I have it on my kindle and read it randomly while in Doctors reception area and love the looks on the other patients faces as I am laughing out loud ! I mean who laughs at the Doctors !?!

This book is thoroughly entertaining, while yet managing to teach some of the basics of philosophy. This isn't JUST a joke book (though the jokes are great) but you can tell that the authors actually love their subject and want you to learn something about it. You're not going to qualify for a degree in philosophy by reading this, but you're going to absorb some of the concepts and terminology and maybe even be inspired to dig deeper -- while laughing the whole way. It's a masterful piece of writing in that these guys have managed to serve a fairly substantial "meal" in the guise of a light snack -- call it an appetizer. I'd have given it five stars on the basis of entertainment, but gave it four because I wouldn't have minded a little more meat. However, I do recommend it for anyone who would enjoy a "painless" but relatively superficial introduction to philospy and I already bought one copy for a friend.

My husband thoroughly enjoyed the book as a short easy travel read. It presented philosophical perspectives with funny anecdotes to illustrate them.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I am aware of most of these paradoxes already, and I think that the explanations for the paradoxes are sometimes quite poor. Also the author occasionally brings up unrelated physics, only to explain it poorly.As an example, he talks about the Quantum Zeno Effect. He spends five pages never saying exactly what it is. Just the bog-standard quotes about quantum physics being weird and who knows what "observation" really is. He jokes about the incomprehensibility of "a quantum physicist will happily tell you that the effect can be explained by "the constant collapse of the wave function into the initial decayed state"". He then does not explain what that means. As far as I can tell, he's just using jargon to impress the lay reader.I see what he intends because know what he's referencing. If you don't already know the Quantum Zeno Paradox better than he explains it, his coverage will just be baffling. Honestly, a reference to the wikipedia page on the Quantum Zeno Effect would have better than this mushy 5 page summary.Writing about complex subjects simply is hard to do. Jim Al-Khalili does not succeed.

Maybe I shouldnâ€™t have purchased this book. The chapter 1 puzzles were all familiar to me as was chapter 2â€™s Achilles and the Tortoise. Chapter 3 was somewhat new as far as digging into the details. However, I question a couple of items here.1/ The assertion that the stars in consecutive shells of space, with the same thickness, radiate equal amounts of light back to Earth is questionable. Here we see an increase in the number of stars equal to the increase in volume of the shell assuming an average star density. Given a shell numbering of n, going from 1 to infinity, the increase is precisely n^3 â€“ (n â€“ 1)^3. Conservatively we can reduce this to simply n^3. But because these stars are further away, their apparent brightness is reduced by 1/n^2. And also because their apparent size is also reduced by 1/n^2, their ability to light up the sky is further diminished so the overall effect is a reduction of n^3/n^4 which simplifies to 1/n. Now, if we say the light emitted by stars reaching the Earth from the first shell is magnitude L, then we can generate a harmonic series L/1, L/2/ L/3, L/4, L/5â€¦â€¦â€¦etc. The sum of the harmonic series L/n is the total for all shells. This infinite sum diverges to infinity and would result in an illuminated sky. But the sum of the partial series, limited to the extent of the visible universe, falls far short of the light intensity required to even see an object in the night sky. Hence, this is the reason why the sky appears mostly black at night. Iâ€™m not disputing the answer because this is obviously what we see but Iâ€™m questioning some of the details.2/ â€œLike walking too slowly down an escalator going upâ€ is not an accurate description of light traveling in an expanding universe. It really is more like the common mathematical puzzle of the ant walking along a stretching rubber rope which does, un-intuitively, reach the end albeit an age later.These are questions by me and are posed to solicit responses; am I missing something?Update: I skimmed through the remaining chapters and was not impressed by the side-tracking to physics lessons away from discussion about the actual paradoxes. For those already familiar with the physics, this would be frustrating read. The book should be re-titled, physics lessons around apparent paradoxes. It's probably OK for those wanting to know more physics.

I enjoyed this book and found that it helped to clarify the paradoxes discussed in this book (see below). In doing so, it also provided a good overview of many of the conundrums that relativity theory and quantum mechanics have created. I give this book 5-stars and recommend it to people, like myself (a retired research metallurgist with a long ago exposure to modern phyaics in graduate school and further reading since I have retired), which have some understanding of the ideas presented in this book, but with the reservation that those with little or no background in the subjects covered are likely to view the book less positively.What is in this book-This book discusses the most important paradoxes created by modern physics, plus two introductory chapters that discusses some logic paradoxes.
