Weighing in at under 70 pages for $19.95 isn't much value. It can be forgiven somewhat given the likely small distribution of this book - or if it fit into a total framework for Qualitative Research Methods as a couple chapters. I'd love to see all the volumes of that put together into one website or book and sold for a more reasonable price.McCracken does an excellent job summarizing the gathering and use of qualitative research through the long interview, including comparisons between quantitative and qualitative data, the pre-interview research process, formulating questions, and finally, the interview process. I would have liked to see more focus on the interview process, along with more do's and don't.This book was written at the scholarly level, which makes it somewhat obtuse for those not well-vested in the terminology (including myself). As an aspiring researcher and sometime interviewer at work, I'd like a more straightforward approach.In all, it covers the topic well, but only for those already familiar with it. For someone looking for practical advice on long interviews, I don't think this is the book.

This is a five-star work! It reads well, Prof. McCracken has a smooth and elegant style: Information is abundant and presented in an easily-digestible way. The book should be on the compulsory list of all first-year (aspirant) qual researchers and on the 'highly-recommended' list of those who pursue quan studies.

Seminal work of McCracken. A little dry, but purposeful.

I purchased this book to help with the Civil PE Exam, but found that the formatting was not helpful to me. The sample questions themselves are not very similar to the actual exam, and in fact made me more confused about several topics. I attempted to work through many of the practice problems, but continually found them to be outside of the realm of the exam formatting and as such were unhelpful I took the book with me to the exam on the off chance I couldn't find what I was looking for in any of my other reference materials, but honestly did not open this book at all.Stick to the sample exam books offered by NCEES. They are formatted exactly like the exam and will help you understand the exam process much better.

Don't waste your money. Some problems on here are recommended as an hour to solve them. They also cover all kinds of obscure topics that have a low probability of being on the exam. You'd be better off with something like 6 Minute Solutions for your PE Exam prep. I bought this book and probably only spent a couple hours with it of my 100+ hour exam prep.

Just as with the CERM, this is way more in-depth and involved than needed to pass the exam. The majority of the problems (not just the ones that say "one hour" are much more time-consuming than the problems on the test. You have to pick and choose what problems you are going to do, because trying to do them all will get you a divorce and a trip to the psychiatric ward. That said, this is still your best option for getting as many practice problems in as many fields as possible, since buying the 6 minute solutions for each of the 5 fields will really hurt your wallet. My advice, do a couple problems from each section you review in the CERM, then move on. Get to the practice tests earlier in your studies, you can always come back for further review if necessary.

I've been studying for the civil exam (structural) with this and it is very in depth which is great. There are a lot of details and a plethora of information on all subjects related to Civil Engineering. This will be one of my main books for the exam. It also pairs with the Practice Problems quite well.That being said, I am not amused by the Masonry section from this book. This is a very detailed book (and expensive) with 3 chapters dedicated to Masonry (29 pages) and there are 11 pages of errata for this section for the first printing. I will have to print out the pages and keep it with the book during the exam as I cannot trust the Masonry section of the book because there are so many errors.

Book is extremely thorough, but also overwhelming and problems are more complicated than actual test. I crammed for the PE exam without ever using this book (due to overwhelming nature and lack of time) and fortunately still passed (with extreme amount of luck and I'm honestly an extremely good test taker). So quite frankly, I'm glad I did not waste time trying to solve problems in this book, but if I had, then I'd be an even more informed engineer and nothing wrong with that!

Book is good if you know what your doing and just need a reminder what the equations are. If you are not sure of the subject or the problem, you will need the CERM for explanation.I only used this a few times during the PE Exam only because I tagged some of the tables and made notes on the conversion pages. Everything is in the CERM.

Very helpful. However, one should not just rely on this one book. I think this is a great book, in conjunction with other study materials. Good luck!

It didn't really help me in the PE exam I just took. I found myself relying mostly on the big reference manual.

An amazing book for readers of all ages. I read it with my kids ages 9 and 4, they loved not only the story, but also the illustrations. A few days later, my 4-year -old told me, "Mom, I dreamed of the Drum Dream Girl! I was playing the drums!" This book is important not only for its beautiful prose and appealing art, but also to remember how women were not allowed to follow their dreams at certain point of our history.

I bought this book for my 2.5 yr old daughter and she absolutely loves this book and has asked to read it for bedtime every night for about 2 months now. She can also recite verbatim the first half of the book now. There are certain repetitive phrases that she also loves saying "big, round silvery moon-bright timbales." It's so fun to hear her recite it from memory. And I appreciate the multi-cultural theme that underscores this book as well. Overall, an interesting, aspirational book about a little girl's dream and how she achieved it.

What a beautiful story. The words read like a sweet evening beat. My daughter loves this book and I love the positive message that it share with her- she can be anything she dreams of being.

I love this book, from it's message of female adversity in a male dominated field to triumph. The illustrations are lovely and I'm happy we have this book for our collection with it's positive message for young girls and boys.

Great picture book based on a historical character's desire to become a drummer. Children will love reading and listening to this enchanting story. The artwork is lovely. Parents will enjoy reading again and again.

Drum Dream Girl is amazing! The illustrations are vibrant and creative. When you look at them you really think of the world through the eyes of an imaginative child. The story itself is also really wonderful! Not only can it be a book that promotes multiculturalism, it also promotes confidence in young girls to pursue their dreams. I recommend this book to everyone of any age!

Dave Bidini is the author of nine books, two documentary films, and one play. He is a columnist for the Toronto Star and the National Post. His first book in the sports genre, Tropic of Hockey, was named one of the Top 100 Canadian Books of All-Time by McClelland and Stewart, and his baseball odyssey, Baseballissimo, is currently being made into a feature film. Bidini is a board member of Street Soccer Canada and has attended two Homeless World Cups, traveling with Team Canada to Melbourne and Milan. He lives in Toronto, Canada, with his wife and their two children.
